I ate here last night http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/573018. Leo Cave y Cocina is probably my favorite restaurant in Bogota. Of course there's always Andres Carne de Res, but that's more for the experience than the food. after that, went to a full service strip club in Santa Fe, the Red Light District. The talent was off the hook as usual, although the girl to guy ratio wasn't what it usually is, being this is a three-day weekend (Monday is Three Kings Day).

Now, the dollar is about 1,780 pesos to the dollar, which isn't good - it should be at 2,000 and I long for the days in 2005/2006 when it was 2,600. But a bottle of Colombian beer here is about 1,200 pesos, I had a late breakfast of Tamale, hot chocolate, fresh squeezed oj and a roll for 5,000 pesos and a mid-level (read 25 years old with one kid) stripper/hooker considers 700,000 pesos (about $400) a GREAT WEEK. The average salary here is 600,000 a Month ($340). So you do the math.

And then there's the weather. The rainy season ended in December, so the forecast for Bogota for the next three months is 70 during the day, 50 at night, and no rain in sight. some people think that's on the cool side - I think it's perfect.
How safe is Bogota for an American? I've heard all the fear mongering about kidnappings from the press, but what is the real story from someone actually there?

Also, how much per night for a decent hotel? Is the internet any good?
