I can't imagine meeting someone on the web these days, though. I mean...back in the 'old' days...BBSing was mostly local. Most everyone lived in proximity to one another - making it much easier (and less costly) to meet up.
And maybe it's just me...but BBS people weren't quite as fake as a lot of people on the 'net. Sure, we had a few trolls and fake personnas - but they didn't seem as prevalent. We hosted a few BBS get-togethers back in the day...and with only a few exceptions, most everyone seemed the same IRL as their online personna.
