Mate, need to have a quick word with you - dunno if you know, but the walls here aren't that great, so I can hear your music thumping right through, also now and then when doors slam that carries right through as well. It's like that background noise that goes right through you. Any chance you can move your speakers so they aren't as close to my wall, or turn it down a few notches? Set your speakers/volume and then give me a knock, then we can work out at what level it is where it starts thumping through instead of you having to sort of guess what's ok and what isn't.
Would definitely be my 1st point of action these days. In the old days it'd be waaay different, but would end up with me in an old bill motor. That's still a viable secondary option imo, but def try the nice approach first - most, though obviously not all, people are mortified that the behaviour/actions they genuinely thought was ok is actually not, and act accordingly.
