WTC 7 was hit by debris when the North Tower fell. Don't be fooled by people saying that WTC 7 was blocks away. It wasn't blocks away; It was across the street from the WTC complex. The only thing between the towers and WTC 7 was WTC 6, which was only ninety feet tall - and WTC 6 was destroyed too (although partially standing the day after after). So debris from the North Tower hits WTC 7, hitting the south face of the building, as well as removing chunks from the southwest corner between floors 7 and 17 and on the south face between Floor 44 and the roof.

Fire fighters had problems getting into the building after the north tower fell; The entrances were blocked - buried with debris.

So you have a building that was hit with tons of falling debris, that pretty much just went through an earthquake, and now it's on fire for eight or ten hours.

The question shouldn't be "how did it fall" but instead the question should be "how come it didn't fall sooner?".
