As someone who studied the martial arts as a young man to think shooting at targets in a controlled environment is going to make you ready for a gun fight is silly. In the words of Bruce Lee, "Boards don't hit back."
I think you should be able to own any gun you want. It should be registered yearly and you got to take a 4 weekend course and pass a test to get your gun license. A more comprehensive background check and close all selling loopholes. All guns start as legal. You pass it all, which I figure 95 percent of all gun owners can do, own an arsenal if you want.

I really don't give a shit about turkey, unless I shot it and I get mashed potatoes with it.
4 week course? LOL, the military spent an afternoon on us. My training was from a Marine that spent years shooting with me.
As far as shooting back, not a problem

Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
think about that
