I am sure maiming was the biggest intent, just because of the type of bomb; they cause a lot of injuries for a significant distance. I don't think they had the balls to off someone up close and personal; the younger one did not want to die, the older brother probably did not care. I hear he said he had no friends here; sounds like a personal problem.
I am sure the younger one was scared shitless and had been in that boat for a long while.
