was there a better way to handle the situation than for you to pre-emptively strike an ~8 pound dog prior to what you assume would be an attack on your ~50 pound attack dog?

honestly.

a lot of dog owners in here. i'm willing to be wrong here but in all my experiences, a small dog doing that is going to run up to a point and stop. it is not going to just run up on your dog and start ripping its throat out.
