Our local Apple store is on the Southside of Jacksonville, I know from where I live it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get there with normal traffic, that doesn't take into account rush hour and weekend traffic.
$100 though for a cracked screen, that seems like if the volume is there (people being to lazy to travel to the local store) it could be at least somewhat profitable, did he have some kind of maintenance contract with Apple?
From what I understand he has all of the equipment and stuff to do repairs on hand, I think he told me a while back a new 'screen pack' cost him like $25 each and he is charging about $75 to repair a cracked screen right now.
I realize we couldn't possibly compete with Apple in terms of what they offer service wise (replacing entire phone) but I wonder just how large the local market is with people too lazy to get to the store or wanting it done 'now' that they would pay $75 for someone to come to them and repair it?
Right now I am seriously thinking about investing a few hours to throw him a simple site together and see how it goes, worse case scenario nobody calls and I wasted a couple of hours on a simple site, best case is, he gets a ton more business and I take a cut of the revenues.
