Most trading scripts are actually quite good, you just need to find a quality trade partner. Most webmasters are assholes, they tell you to send XXX amount of hits to begin trade, then when you do, they don't reciprocate and never respond when you try to contact them.
This is how most new webmasters like myself get suckered, we send what little quality traffic we have and get shit traffic in return or no traffic at all.
My advice is to never send a single hit to "START" a trade. Make sure for every single quality trade you send, you immediately receive a quality one back.
