Try some new things and set a time limit. If you think things will go bad in six months maybe give yourself a hard 3 to 4 month limit with a specific goal. If you don't reach the goal then you get a job somewhere.
There are too many variables to decide what will work for you. If you don't have any experience with anything else in IM besides what you do now it might be tough to make good money doing something else in such a short time. If you're going to attempt it I'd put as many irons in the fire as you can and then work with the ones which are getting the hottest first.
