The question is why does it cost $200,000 to register a new TLD and why do we have to pay any more than $5/year to register a domain? It's all just bits and costs pennies per domain in real costs. It's a system of artificial scarcity meant to prop up old players from the mid nineties so they can charge artificially high prices. Companies like Network Solutions should have been dead ten years ago.
