ALL domain names are slated to go up in cost in the near future, with an average annual cost to be around $20 or so, to include .com ...
This may or may not be true at the registrar level, since registrars can mark up domain registrations to charge whatever they want. If I'm not mistaken, NetSol is already like $35/yr, no?

However, the actual base cost the registrars pay to verisign for .com is $7.95 and that will not change till at least 2019. Versign renewed a 6-year contract w/ the US Dept. of Commerce at the end of 2012 and the contract does not allow any price increase through its current term.

I would be very surprised if Go Daddy or many other registrars start marking up the cost of .com to $20+ any time soon. But hey, I guess anything could happen.
