College football is HUGE in the US, college football is played on Saturdays. Thursday night NFL games should be done away with, the games are usually terrible, 3 days between games just isn't enough to recuperate.

I'm not saying that any of this is incorrect, as you are probably right, but people also tend to use Saturdays as days to get things done that they could not get completed during the week and use Sunday's to relax. Even in the football off-season, people still tend to follow that pattern.
