We tested both before buying the VX2000. Most of our work is shot on the fly, or not in the best conditions (studio, etc.). The VX was far superior in the lower light, but the quality was pretty much the same in full daylight.
The drawback to the VX is that if you plan on pulling screen captures from it, you really need to shoot in progressive mode to get the best quality, and that captures at a somewhat choppy 15 fps, while the GL2's progressive (movie mode) is a full 30 fps, if I remember correctly.
We had a small problem with getting excess noise and wind with the VX outdoors, so I bought a $2 windscreen for the mic and that pretty much solved that.
