It might be perfectly true and maybe they were in a struggle where the officer had to shoot.. However maybe the officer made a bad decision and covered up his actions by claiming the guy reached for his gun.
Sadly, police breaking the law happens so often that we can't really trust them in this day an age. The only solution i see is to make all cops wear body cameras. The technology is there so there isn't really an excuse.
