Not sure, I imagine, a prequel would be the one where they show everything from Walter's perspective... Now Walter is not in the picture at all, they just have some characters who were known to Walter. Which may hapen when it is set in the same town.
Plus the prequal is what happenes "before" while this one is more of a "parallel" timeline.
