I had a former roommate who would write hate mail like that to women he didn't approve of on myspace, craigslist, etc. Not just little comments but full letters, he was very racist and it was usually because the girls dated blacks. He got really pissed at me when I told him just how pathetic he was. The only women he could get to go out with him were ugly 50+ year old women and he would complain about being used if they expected him to pay for a meal.
