"Social media" was designed to get people used to the idea that everything they do, say, or ultimately think will be known by everyone else. The government can easily monitor and collect data when everyone is already streaming and/or posting their every move.
Privacy - what's that? They will say in a couple of generations. Oh, some ancient concept that people could be individuals who didn't have a need to share every time they took a shit with everyone else.
