Check out the exit poll numbers from the last four elections. Bush, in both elections, was able to get a decent amount of the Latino vote and he won both of those elections. Romney and McCain were not able to get much of the Hispanic vote and they both lost.
For example. In 2004, Bush got 44% of the Latino vote. In 2008 McCain only managed around 30% of Latino vote. In 2012 Romney only got 27% of the Latino vote
I'm not saying that is the only reason, but it is a pretty big reason. Any candidate that wants to win the next presidential election will have to find ways to engage minority voters and young voters.
Here is an article from Forbes that talks about the problems Trump has with Latino voters.
Here's a story that talks about how actress America Ferrera is thanking Trump because it has united many Latino communities and caused them to register to vote (for someone other than him).
Here is an op/ed piece by a Fox News contributor saying how Trump has managed to unite all Latino groups nationwide against him.
None of this is hard polling data, but I think based on how people have reacted it is fair to say that right now Latinos are not embracing Trump as a candidate.
In my opinion if he manages to win the republican nomination he will have a long way to go to earn back the Latino vote and I don't think he can do it.
