Though in all fairness, those are issues (except the stupid birther shit).
So any outrage over WHAT a bureaucrat does in office is pretty much not in the same category as attacking each other in a political race.
Politics have always been dirty.
The media is pretending that nobody has ever questioned anyone else on their military service and/or has ever slung personal insults.
