Oooh, ruptured disk at l4/l5 last summer, I'll weigh in.
Orthopedics all the way. Get an MRI and see what's really in there, xrays are NOT enough.
My ortho guy at the Mayo wouldn't even consider surgery but as a final option, and would have sent me to neurosurgery for it.
I couldn't walk for nearly 6 weeks (no cast that time tho lol) and while I have nothing against chiropractors at all, they are simply not qualified to handle major back problems.
