They (R) might have found smaller a location in adjacent Oakland or Macomb Counties aka: Suburbia. The Fox Theater is huge 5,000 seats, an historic building, I saw the first release of "Zulu" there with my dad when I was a kid (a certain irony there). ^Africans LOL WTF?

Welch Auditorium on the other side of the state has 3,800 seats and is in a prime Republican dominated area of the state of Michigan. This was a decision of the RNC and they are in fantasy land it they think the City of Detroit was much interested is what the candidates had to say.
Bernie would have been happy to have had the Democrat Debate in Ann Arbor where the U of M is in; Washetenaw County 50 miles from Detroit and 45 miles from Flint.
