That?s what I?m looking for here, ?honest feedback?. Everyone has varying opinions on the adoption of a 4K workflow. Personally I feel we?re just moving forward and keeping up with technology and what the consumer will be demanding very soon. I remember when we were early adopters of HD video and everyone was saying SD would remain the standard on the web for years to come and HD required too much bandwidth for the web. Well, HD gained traction a lot faster than expected (on the web) and is obviously now the standard for any website. I feel that's where we're at right now with 4K moving in to dethrone HD. It may take a little longer but at some point the consumer will expect 4K video. It will no longer be a bonus, it?ll be a requirement. I know right now if I click on a thumbnail to view a video and find that it's an SD video I'm disappointed and wish that it was HD. It won?t be long before that same scenario will apply to 4K and people?s expectations.
With broadband getting faster and faster and available to more and more users it won't be long before it'll be time to go back and re-render our existing 4K videos at even higher resolutions where you will really see the difference between HD and 4K. It may take a year, 3 years, 5 years but in any case I?m future-proofing the content I?m shooting now. When I watch this source video on my 5K iMac full-screen it's so crystal clear that you almost feel like you're there. As more and more people adopt 4K televisions and monitors it won?t be long before 4K is the standard. Even now, being able to full screen a video without it degrading is a huge bonus as a user.
