My distant Grandmother told me that as we age we appreciate the service that our bodies give to us & forget how much we abused them. When I was 17 I worked for a few seasons in an old folks home and eventually understood that constant abuse of your body and/or indulgence of the ego results in a mind/body disconnect where either or takes dominance and you are no longer a fully functioning person.
IMO those that disconnect the two early on, then reconnect to overcome loss of limb, addiction, weight loss, muscle growth etc, those are the strongest of us all.
