Actually a knife fight martial arts are very popular here in Russia (we have lots of
special schools of it) because you can legally carry a knife (need no permission as for a gun). Also because a knife could be much more effectively weapon in city than a gun. It was proven that a trained gunman has no chances against a trained knife fighter on a distance of 5 meters. The first one won't has a no time to pull the gun out, aim and shoot while the second one shortens the distance and stubs him at least a few times (5 or more). Once again: that's a fact proven by professionals from special forces, not by me
