The shooter can claim allegiance to ISIS (and Al Nusra) all he wants. It was a cover for his homosexual guilt.
San Bernadino, on the other hand were people truly in love with the ideology of ISIS.
Mateen was as American as anyone else. He grew up here and seems like the kind of guy any of us could know personally. Claiming you love iSIS while shooting up a gay club you frequent on a regular basis doesn't make you an ISIS member. It means you're a confused, angry person who blames everyone else for your problems...and you're hoping you go into the grave with everyone thinking you're not gay. But that didn't work for him.
