They don't want to kill us off, they want the population to be lower, so the earth's resources aren't strained. This is a good thing; The US and most developed nations are growing very slowly if at all. It is the nations with the least resources who are growing their populations the fastest. This leads to massive suffering, and inequality. Starving as a child is a horrible horrible fate.
