That 100+ went into collections... fuckers. Called aetna again and they promised to make it right. Months later I am in collections for 10 dollars... double fuckers.
Several years ago I had a similar thing. I went to the doctor and at the time I was paying cash. They sent me a bill and I completely forgot to pay it. It was my fault I forgot to pay it. They sent me a letter telling me if I didn't pay by a certain day they would turn me over to collections. I paid them, but somehow they screwed up and still sent me to collections. When I got called by the collection agency I explained what was going on and they said they would contact the doctor and fix it. Well, this went on for several months as my account bounced between collection agencies. Each said they would fix it, but never did. My doctor eventually contacted the collection agency and got the bill removed, but by then the agency had reported me as late and it showed on my credit history. When I tried to get that fixed the collection agency swore they were in the right.

In the end I ended up just giving up and knew I would have a hit for $180 on my credit. When I went to buy my house I had to give a written statement to the lender explaining what had happened, but they didn't seem to hold it against me.
