Arizona Cardinals release WR Michael Floyd

Bruce Arians and the Arizona Cardinals have made a statement that they won't tolerate off-field issues. The team announced on Wednesday that wide receiver Michael Floyd has been released just days after being charged with DUI.

Floyd allegedly fell asleep at the wheel early Monday morning and was arrested for driving under the influence. He was found by police slumped over and unconscious behind the wheel.

The fifth-year wideout was set to be a free agent in the offseason, and even without his run-in with the law, his value was expected to be minimal. He's caught a career-low 33 passes for 446 yards and four touchdowns this season, proving to be an inconsistent and unreliable target in the passing game.

There should be some interest in the 6-foot-2 receiver, though. He has the physical traits and athletic ability to be a good No. 2 receiver, but his intangibles and football IQ are lacking.

Floyd will be replaced on the active roster by wide receiver Jeremy Ross, who's a journeyman in the NFL.
