He was handed the wrong envelope, and didn't know what to do. He's not the worlds best speaker and he was in front of millions. I don't blame the guy for freezing.
What kind of sucked was that the producer of the show came out, announced who the real winner was, then snatched the real card out of Beaty's hands. Kinda shitty.
The best way to handle it would have been for the producers to let Kimmel know, have him go out on stage, stop the acceptance speech, hand Beaty the real winning card, and whisper to the team of LalaLand that there was a mistake.
This way Beaty could announce the real winner, and La La Land could hand the Oscar over to the real winners.
Regardless, congrats to all of the winners. Yesterday's Oscar show was really good. The pace was faster, the jokes were better, etc.
