Sanders should have run a campaign as the candidate of the "new" party and as agent of progressive change. He stood some chance for reason of his long time standing in the US Senate and his possibility to compromise to enact legislation.

Recent analysis shows that 10% of Bernie supporters voted for Trump. Bernie might have thrown the election into the House when no one had an Electoral College victory -- as things were intended to be.
