I'm not sure I agree with all of his view points but one thing is for certain, he is absolutely open minded about all of his views. He always suggests that his viewpoints or opinions not only could be based on possible ignorance but could even change if something clear and proven is brought to light in either his research or something that is shown to him but one thing is clear, he doesn't put up with peoples whiny bullshit.
It's unfortunate that some alt-right people cherry pick his words and miss a lot of the point of his lectures but it doesn't take away from what he is saying. He is not just standing up for things like free speech to be an apologist for people with hateful views, he instead talks about the things that drive people to this hate in the first place--which is a much more important question. He holds accountable the people with unrealistic politically correct views when it attacks the very basis of the language itself and I have a hard time disagreeing with him when he does it.
Generally people are only threatened by his words because they are either not listening to the full message or they are too dense to understand it completely but in time the importance of his lectures will be remembered for generations I'm sure. Is he a little arrogant? Sure, but he is attacked often and has had to defend his words constantly, even to protect his job and reputation and has done it with flying colours for the most part.
