if that is your understand than all is fine.
US companies already making MUCH MORE profit outside of usa as your trade deficit.

if you really think that a company what is based in another country is still an "american company" you should inform yourself.
in that moment it is a company FROM THIS COUNTRY. just the capital is owned by an american company.

but it will cost jobs in USA - thatīs pretty simple to understand or do you want to export american workers to brasil, india an thailand ?

What is the purpose of the tariff?
A tariff is a tax imposed on the import or export of goods. In general parlance, however, it refers to "import duties" charged at the time goods are imported. Tariffs have three primary functions: to serve as a source of revenue, to protect domestic industries, and to remedy trade distortions (punitive function).
better donīt read wikipedia to learn what a tariff is. better learn what a trade war is and why there can not be a winner. I donīt know how many trillions more you can borrow but I know that the rest of the world can borrow more to survive.

this is only the beginning of it.
and the consequences will be seen in a few month and after that it needs a few years if not centuries to fix it again.

remember that your president gave a shit to any contracts earlier presidents signed.
this will not be forgotten. nobody will easily make a deal with USA ever again if contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.
