Years ago I tried to hire someone and the job position required a college degree. HR did their homework and told us we couldn't hire her - turns out she lied about graduating from college. We were still willing to get her a chance, and she explained that she only went to college for "two or three years" before dropping out. The college eventually told HR she only attended school there for "a few months".
When you lie, eventually you get caught.
