a basketball is not a weapon. The verbal back and forth went on for several mins after the ball. A teacher should only defend themselves from getting hit by the students as in restraining a kid throwing punches. The teacher should've thrown him out of the classroom the second he threw the ball at him and if he refused to leave call security.
A teacher striking students is only showing the kids it's ok to resort to violence when called a name.
