If you walk into someone's cage of your own free will, you've put your life into someone else's hands. That person may do the right thing and give you food/water/accommodation, or may not. Your fate isn't in your own hands anymore.
I guess the better solution to this problem would be to avoid going into someone's cage in the first place.
