Yes they met at Yale but then went off in their own directions and kept in touch.. Hillary had already done the watergate shit by the time she married Bill in 1975. That's why all her friends couldn't believe she was gonna run off to backwards Arkansas, because she was already well known in Washington circles and many expected her to eventually end up on the Supreme Court or in Congress even back at that time because there was still very few high profile women in politics. They knew she was gonna do something that's why they couldn't believe she dropped it all to run to hillbilly land to marry Bill..
