I can only speak on the east side, majority of the tenements were abandoned. Realtors scooped them up and built them cheap ass slab buildings on the empty lots and let yuppies flood in. The projects are still the projects tho.
I like how it turned out honestly. It's a mix of everybody living together now, no matter the race or tax bracket. And it's safer than it's ever been. It backfired on the original gentrification plan, in a good way.
I didn't really deal with the west side (Clinton's side) too much. Can't speak too much about it other than I use to frequent the Allah school in mecca as a teen.
