(Pasting what I wrote about it on XBIZ after season 1 came out)
This is a very well-done drama about one of the first rebel film-makers in the JAV industry, Toru Muranishi -->

They definitely are making things a bit more fanciful for the sake of entertaining programming, but I think they got the broad strokes of what was going on in Japan when it came to adult magazines and video in the early 1980’s.
The never-ending internecine censorship conflicts between studios and the government (and Ethics companies which were a pleasant surprise in episode 4) is handled well. People abroad sometimes wonder if JAV studios are run by puritans and as we see in this series, the answer is a resounding NO. They want to show as much as possible, but don’t want to go to jail—something the protagonist of this series did on several occasions.
A great watch if you’re curious to see how the world’s second largest adult video market came into being and want to be entertained at the same time.
Season 2 is also very good, but it also went from the co-stars being Toru AND the nascent JAV industry to Toru, a hyper ambitious entrepreneur who just happened to be the owner of an adult video production company.
