you can't just do a little work and then sit around waiting for the check before you do more work. when a project is done, start another one. deliverables and receivables are different departments requiring different states of mind.
most people who work low income day jobs are at zero all the time waiting for their next paycheck. but the job keeps them earning the next paycheck after that.
if you can't create continuous income then you have to be in the job/slave market. that's how it works.
i have to spend time on marketing and sales every week, then put on my developer hat and get projects done, and once or twice a month deal with invoices and late payments.
if you can't figure out an income funnel, an employer has to do it for you.
no one over 25 should be at zero ever.
