what I've noticed:
Rugby players wear no padding/armor.
In American Football, they stop after every few seconds of play (or after every few yards) to stand around, doing nothing... taking a break? I don't know. In Rugby, it seems like they don't stop beating on eachother until somebody loses consciousness or breaks a leg.
