Over the weekend, XBIZ CHICAGO played host to the premiere of a session called "3 Minute Show-Offs." Ten companies were invited to participate in the session, in which they each had to give a 3-minute elevator pitch about their company. The audience voted on which presentation was the best, and the winner was awarded $2,500 worth of advertising from XBIZ.

Porn Guardian came in first place, winning the coveted $2,500 prize. The company's presentation, given by co-owner Dominic Ford, started with "2 Myths About Piracy." Myth #1: The problem is so overwhelming there is no way we can do anything about it. Myth #2: Your site has hundreds of pirates.

Ford went on to explain that most sites only have 2-3 "initial pirates" (and even the biggest sites generally have under 10). Initial Pirates, according to Ford, are those who use your member accounts to download files initially from your site. Unfortunately, these pirates do a lot of damage, as they upload files to multiple places online. Those files then get propagated by "relay pirates" (those who didn't initially download the material and just re-post already pirated material). This results in hundreds of versions of the same files available for download in many places. Ford's point that all these copies of the scene can be traced back to very few initial pirates hit home.

Porn Guardian offers two services. The company's primary service is currently the core of its business: their DCMA Notification service. Currently employing over 20 "harvesters," the company does its best to find all infringing content on behalf of it clients. Once the files are found, they are categorized and put into the company's much-lauded reporting platform. The platform automatically sends out DMCAs and tracks the their progress every 15 minutes.

The second service offered by the company is a content delivery system that marks downloaded files allowing the company to identify the initial pirate when files are later found online. The technology is proprietary and uses several simultaneous techniques to imprint files. This service is aimed at stopping piracy where it starts: on the paysites themselves, instead of just playing whack-a-mole once the files are already propagating online.

Only 6 months old, the company already represents over 250+ brands. The company also supplies "report piracy" forms to its clients that they can put on their sites. Ford said, "Beating piracy is a collaborative effort. In addition to our dedicated staff, we encourage our clients to report files they find themselves, and also use our form on their site so their customers and affiliates can report files they find directly to us. We are all in this together, and by working together we hope to make a difference in the industry." The company even allows competitor DMCA Take-Down services to use its platform. Adds partner Peter Phinney, "We are an end-to-end anti-piracy company, not just a DMCA take-down service. To that end, our clients (who might also use other DMCA Take-Down companies or are doing a good job in-house finding pirated files) prefer to centralize all parties' efforts on our platform, as it makes the URL submission process simple, and offers the best reporting in the industry."

Porn Guardian offers a free "do it yourself" service as well as a paid "fully staffed" solution.

Ford, who developed all the technology used by Porn Guardian himself, is no stranger to the adult industry. His own website, DominicFord.com, is the first (and only) 3D Gay Porn paysite. The site has won numerous awards, and has emerged (in only 3 years) as one of the major brands in the gay porn space.
