LOS ANGELES (February 22, 2016) â?? The panelists for Thursdayâ??s â??Consent in Porn: Debunking Myths and Managing Realities,â?� produced by Sssh.com and XBIZ.com, are finalized. They will include the adult industryâ??s Dana Vespoli, Conner Habib, Mercedes Carrera, Mickey Mod, Nina Elle, and Mark Schechter.

The 1 pm PST panel on Feb. 25 will be moderated by Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals, author of Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment. Media and the general public may live stream the event for free at Mindbrowse - Food For The Mind - Porn Debates and Discussions.

During â??Consent in Porn,â?� the panelists will discuss the ways in which consent operates in their professional environment (and how this impacts their personal lives).

In every social interaction, consent â?? permission for something to happen â?? is key. Though the concept itself is simple, consent becomes quite complex in daily life. It takes many forms and is constantly being renegotiated.

Porn production is one instance wherein consent is exceptionally complex. From booking a scene to endless iterations of on-camera sex, performers are navigating various dimensions of consent, often moment by moment. These negotiations occur within a subculture operating under its own set of unique norms, as well as within the context of a wider society that continues to stigmatize professional sex work.

I took a course at the University of Toronto back in the early 90s called "the Politics of Pornography." I remember arguing repeatedly with one woman about porn. I was in support of it as a career choice for women, while she was convinced it wasn't a choice and that it was inherently violent against women. This was before the Internet and getting porn meant buying magazines and VHS tapes. One day it occurred to me to ask her: "Have you actually scene any porn?" Her response: "No." Well, that pretty much crushed her arguments instantly.
