last year i ran a couple of incentives for affs promoting health products based on fb like buttons/ g+ /twitter.

it was difficult to measure success at first but after panda/penguin it was interesting to see that the sites that responded to the incentive weathered the storm better than those that didnt.

Use the like button on several websites. It works out and benefits is used properly. Post-Panda and Post-Penguin, social reputation including likes, pluses etc. are given a lot of importance by search engines and so, organic likes work wonders. Have never used like button etc. on adult websites though. :/

I have found it works well with ecommerce website - if you have a like button on every product page, it helps promote the product to a user's friends and friends of friends.

I have found little effect on our own website - which isn't eCommerce
