Epic Fail Canada

Okay, I couldn't help sharing this.

As many of you heard I wanted to go to Canada to live. To immigrate. And it's been a long awaited move that I was ready to make. About 10 years in theh biz, things have been kinda OK, worked out some clients, relations, more or less steady work, and figured if I come I'd get a job and be making my 50-60k a year for average living.

Long before that, I was born in USSR era, I desperately wanted to go to USA, but you can imagine that was impossible. Once USSR was broken I managed to make my first step onto USA land when I was 26. That was probably the most exciting thing I have known to that date.

Been to USA many time since that time, blindly loved the country, flew to the states right after WTC collapsed and was wondering streets of lower Manhattan feeling it all....

Long story short, you can understand that for 10 year I have more relatives in USA then here in my country, and if it was aparty I would of invited US/Canada?UK based fellas not my local.

So, when I actually decided to apply for Canada, it appeared that I missed 10 days terms when they invented new rules, so it made me still eligible to apply but no guarantees were given at all cus new rules meant no established procedures and longer waiting period.

So I have applied as a Web Designer, attached a ton of real ref letters, samples and shit, been waiting for them to respond.... for almost 2 years. Then suddenly they issued a new rule with 37 NOC occupations where they had everything but Web Designers. That was not in demand so they excluded and that made me near non eligible to apply.

Lawyers ( Candian, $1,5k paid in fees ) suggested to take an alternative route applying as a System Manager. I figured that if I turn papers here and there it might be something near that thing, at least i decided to proceed and applied. I tried one respectful company in Canada to help it and they tried preapring me a job offer but failed by several reasons, one of them was lack of given time to process the offer.

And jsut recently I have received the negative, they declined me. Know why? They told me I'm certainly a effing cool webdesigner but certainly not a System Manager, they made their point I have applied as a web designer and then suddenly changed my application to System Manager too. That last thing shocked me, cus my lawyers did NOT tell they applied and sent my docs out as a Web Designer, i assume they should've know I would fail if i apply as System Manager instantly, just wanted their money I guess.

In short Canada wants welders, coocks, nurses, ass wipers of certain type that should speak English near perfect ( pass IELTS test for 6,5 ) - mine in 7.5 - out of 9. Have higher educaton, realtives in Canada, job offer preferably. Or Canada wants Top Managers that could lead their economy to the new horizons. Both are definitely not what Ukraine has to offer as of welders and nurses here don't give a shit about English at all, and Managers here are mostly bribe specialists.

So, that is leaving me a little frustrated honestly.

So, assume, I'm still looking for a job offer in Canada as a web designer / project manager, just a job offer to go to work, no immigration papers needed.

Ummm, you should have really brushed up on Canadian immigration law before applying, because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. I've been through the 18 month and $7000 hassle to get someone permanent residency status to Canada before, so I have an idea.

No, they don't. We have lots of Canadians for those jobs. It sounds as though you applied for as a 'Skilled Worker', which means they're only going to let you in if you have skills to perform a job that a company can not find an eligible & available Canadian citizen for. I'm sorry, but web designer or "system manger" doesn't exactly cut it.

In order for a Canadian company to bring you on, they're going to have to prove to Canadian Immigration's satisfaction that there's no available Canadian citizens who can do the job. Trust me, you're not going to get a VISA if you apply as a web designer.

If you applied out of country, that means you have the right to one appeal. If they refuse you after that, you're done forever, so I would suggest brushing up on Canadian Immigration law before submitting that appeal. Your best bet at a VISA would probably be to marry a Canadian, and prove to Immigration Canada that it's a bona-fide relationship.

You could always just go in under a tourist VISA, and stay forever. Canada doesn't have exit points, so they'll never know. Go to Toronto, head to the Ukrananian area of the city, meet some friends, and they'll help you get setup with a residence, job, bank account, SIN#, etc. Loads of people do that, and the immigrants in Toronto especially are great with newcomers. They always seem to take care of people from their own country.

Mate, they changed immigration law after my application and restricted it to 37 NOC occupations, and yes, I have applied as a Skileld Worker of course, that's why it made me non eligible later when they cut my occupation out of the list. Was very bad timing for me.

I could have stayed in USA back in 2001 but always wanted it legal, stupid eh?
Problem is i have family, little kids - hard to go thru that all not knowing the shit and being illegal.

getting my girl permanent residency has been one of the biggest hassles of my life. it's been two years, and she still doesn't have it (she's Australian). huge lawyer fees, had to add her to my will, bought an engagement ring and had to send a copy of the invoice, had to sign a noterized document that i would provide for her for 3 years if she was unable to get a job (which is a joke, she is well qualified and had already been working here for 2 years before her work Visa expired). there are people that really want to give her a position, but since the work visa ran out (we applied for another, but the lawyer already told us that very unlikely) she can do jack shit until permanent residency comes through.

what a fucking pain in the ass.

no, not really. basically unless you can claim refugee status, its gonna be a long hard process. if you can claim refugee in some way, you don't need any skills or even be able to speak english. my girlfriend works for disablity, she sees it all the time. families who can't speak english get over here then bring more family members who can't speak english and can't work, blah blah blah...

Yeah, it is a pain, eh? The people who complain, "bloody Canadian government, they just let everyone in!" don't really know what they're talking about. I remember we compiled about 6 inches of documentation for the immigration lawyer, and the application that got submitted was probably 2.5 inches thick. Then later on we had to send in another inch worth of shit. We did get approved though.

Why don't you just get married? It's WAY easier applying with a marriage certificate, then going the common-law route. And getting her PR status probably isn't something you want to fuck with, and have the chance of her getting denied. That would fuck your life, I'm assuming. Just head out camping for a weekend, grab a marriage certificate while you're at it with a couple friends for witnesses, and have your actual wedding later. That's what we did.

Yeah, but that's understandable though, no? I had to do the same. It's just to make sure new immigrants don't suck the system, and are self reliant.

Canada changed rules when I already applied and that affected me.
They added NOC 37 restrictions after that.
That is fail #1.

Canadian lawyers were playing their own game not mine. Fail #2.

Of course it's more about how fantastically unlucky was I applyng just 10 days after new
rules have been taken into consideration.

Sorry to hear that. I got all my immigration to Canada done in 10 months without any lawyers. Got a great job immediately as I landed, and that is how I joined this industry. I wasn't in adult before, and could never think I will get here.

oh yeah, i don't mind that at all. the will thing was a little strange, but you've got do, what you've got to do. i was all for getting married, but our lawyer told us flat out, with the new rules, it makes no difference at all. they want proof of a real relationship, getting a marriage certificate means nothing in there eyes anymore. hence will, engagment ring receipt, piles of other documents, proof she is living with me (had to send prints of emails from my HOA that were addressed to her), 3 different people not family that vouched our relationship was legit, and the list goes on.

*apparently* this should all be overwith soon. our lawyer has said he's never seen anything like it. apparently it has something to do with our docs being all sent to Buffalo, and they are notorious for screwing shit up.

I live in Canada.. why the hell would you like to come & live here? They suck all your money with their ridiculous taxes. everything is so expensive. Its so freakin cold or if you are living in BC, you will get rain all winter long.

If i were you, I would try SE Asia... you will not get to deal with all these stuck up bitches that they have in Canada also. I just recently came back from being out of Canada & living in Indonesia. If it was not from my parents being old, I would get the fuck out here so quick.

I'm done immigrating, it seems odd that 100% legit documents, 2 high degrees one of them Candadian, IELTS 7,5, enough funds for all my family and its rejected.

I think when people complain, its less about the people going through the immigration channels (my parents did this back in 1978), and more about the people that apply for refugee staus, or the families that get in, and then bring over extended family, grandparents etc. When I was in high school, my friends mom worked on the immigration board, and she used to get drunk on scotch and let me read some of the case files. She was liberal, and used to call me her son's "Tory Bastard Friend" The people that she said were legit, for refugee status, I had doubts about.

I can sort of see why they don't want an influx of web people, facebook, myspace and the hire-a-programmer sites have 40 million of them avail.

What part of Canada is the best - I want to check it out, I have only been to Vancouver and really liked it.

Fernie Baby. i bought a place here 4 months ago, after 7 years in Whistler. before that, I lived in Banff for 3 years. Coastal mountains of BC are great (aka Whistler and area), but I alway prefered the rockies (aka Fernie, Banff, Lake Louise). of course if you are not into the mountains, (skiing/snowboarding/hiking/biking/swimming depending on the season), i'm not sure i'd bother.

What degrees do you have? I always thought that as long as you have a degree it's reasonably easy to immigrate to Canada, but I guess that's not the case

here's what to do - buy a turban and fake black beard from a costume shop, start calling yourself Mustafa X, post anti-Western comments on Muslim extremist forums. you won't ever have to worry about anything, you're in Canada for life.

sweet. Whistler has crazy terrain. the snow here is, admittedly better though. nothing but pow on Sat and Sun. best (early) opening day i've ever experienced.

weather might suck sometimes but why would you prefer a third world country?

Quiet, I am in Calgary now. Can you give me some good places to take my 6 year old snowboarding or skiing? Or any day trips (spring-summer) would be awesome.

at least she can still live here for the time-being, just can't work. ridiculous. she's a serious threat to national security.
almost like you should have put her skill set as 'farmer'.. would have been allowed right in apparently

canada runs ads looking for immigrants with 500k in their bank account. maybe you have to start saving.

I've been told just come over and stay you won't get deported. But even my own real experience says, I lived in USA, that if you have no real income, no SSN you enter another side of Canada or USA, it's ASS, in particular.

didnt know it was so hard to get into Canada. Its easy to get into the US, just enter through Mexico. Once here we will make you a citizen and give you benefits.

It must be frustrating that you are trying to do it correctly but have so much costs and trouble yet we let in hundreds of people a day with no paper work, background checks or anything, they just let themselves in.

Ever thought about marrying a US female citizen. I know there is a market for Russian brides, would be interesting if there would be one for lonely housewives looking for a Russian husband.

That is fail #1.
so what are you saying , they should keep the rules the way they are forever and ever even after they fill the need for positions ? sorry thats why they make rules, they allow people to become canadians to fill positions we lack, once there is no longer a need for say "web designers" they stop allowing them, otherwise there would be huge rates of unemployment

a dishonest lawyer ? only out to make money ? i don't believe it for a second, lawyers are always kind , honest and charge extremely cheap rates.

Epic Fail is your thread not Canada
I wish you well but you have been posting on gfy about your immigration process for as long as I can remember. You should invest all that energy into something useful or get professional advice.

while i realise theres a little tongue in cheek in your statement, but those days are long over, you cant gain us citizenship merely by sneaking over the fence. The majority of illegals pay taxes and dont reap the social benefits from those taxes as americans do, nor do they get "refunds" . You gotta wonder how these huge companies have almost all illegal workers yet rarely get busted.. because they pay their taxes to uncle sam and don't ever ask for them back. My guess would be illegals are financially helping the country not hindering, despite the social services they recieve ( medical etc )
