Apple CEO has just six weeks to live: Report

http://in.news.yahoo.com/apple-ceo-j...71343-958.html

London, Feb 17 (IANS) Apple founder and CEO Steve Jobs has terminal pancreatic cancer and may live for just six more weeks, a media report said Thursday.
The 55-year-old Jobs in January announced that at his request, the board of directors granted him a medical leave of absence so that he could focus on his health.
Since then, employees have said Jobs can still be seen at the company's headquarters in California and is also calling all the strategic shots from his home.
Now, new pictures have been published in the tabloid National Enquirer, which suggest things may be worse for the the man behind the iPod, iPhone and iPad.
The report said Jobs is stricken with pancreatic cancer and may have just six weeks to live.
The new photos show him looking painfully frail and weak, with his jeans and dark top hanging loosely on his six-feet-two-inches, frail body, the Daily Mail reported.
The pictures were not yet available online, but Jobs's weight is said to have dropped from a pre-cancer 175 pounds to 130 pounds now, according to the National Enquirer.
His thinning hair was a sign of the effects of chemotherapy used to treat the disease.
The photos, which were taken Feb 8, showed Jobs going for breakfast with his wife Laurene Powell before heading to the Stanford Cancer Centre in California.
Jerome Spunberg, a doctor, said: 'Mr. Jobs is most likely getting outpatient chemotherapy at Stanford because the cancer has recurred.'
Gabe Mirkin, a physician with 40 years' experience, said: 'He is terminal. What you are seeing is extreme muscle wasting from calorie deprivation, most likely caused by cancer. He has no muscle left in his buttocks, which is the last place to go.'
'He definitely appears to be in the terminal stages of his life from these photos. I would be surprised if he weighed more than 130 pounds.'
Critical care physician Samuel Jacobson also said: 'Judging from the photos, he is close to terminal. I would say he has six weeks.'
A source, who recently saw Jobs, added: 'He is very frail, moving like a weak, feeble old man. He weaves back and forth when he walks, as if he is having trouble keeping his balance, and the pain of every step is evident on his face.'
The Apple CEO, who is worth $6 billion, is currently on his third medical leave, and has battled a rare form of pancreatic cancer for seven years and had a liver transplant in 2009.
An Apple spokesman did not comment on the new photos.

yeah pancreatic cancer is a death sentence for 99% of people. Lost my mom to it after a 3 year battle and a TON of chemo + surgery. All it really did was extend her life.

My heartfelt condolences go out to his family

I'm certain he would spend every last penny of his $6 billion to be cured, just like any of the rest of us would.

He will definitely leave a legacy behind. Apple will be added to the historical records of modern man's accomplishments and innovations.

Hopefully he's spent some of his time on Earth smelling the roses, and appreciating the gift of life, and not squandering the mere 55 years he was given.

I've always said, the only real currency any of us have, is time itself. We are paid in time alive. How you spend it is up to you...

Pancreatic cancer is pretty much a death sentence. They thought I had it a few years ago, over 60% of the people diagnosed w/ it die in the first 5 years.

I'm not an Apple evangelist, but my heart still goes out to him.

It seems like only yesterday...

Jobs has been battling cancer for the better part of a decade, and during that time Apple has continued to innovate and grow.

Being that he has been aware of his health condition for so long, I have to believe that Jobs has done most of what he wants to do, and accomplished more in his life then most people ever will.

Since at this point it is just speculation being released based upon a photo, I hope that the story is not true, and while I am certain Jobs will fight to the end, he has most likely also come to terms with the eventuality of his passing and prepared for it, while planning his legacy.

It is rumored that Apple CEO Steve Jobs has "six weeks to live" and was allegedly seen entering the Stanford Cancer Center in Palo Alto, Calif., according to the tabloid National Enquirer.

Pancreatic Cancer took my Dad in 03 its a lethal silent killer by the time you notice something is wrong you are already dead you just don't know it yet. In retrospect all the Chemo and the treatment made it worse for him.

Lol, whoops 99% of the time its bullshit. The six week comments were made by doctors looking at a pic of him who have nothing to do with his case. It's obvious the man is sick but lets consider the source for headlines like this.

My Uncles Mother in law just died from pancreatic cancer. she was a lot older though.

Jobs should have spent some in the medical field, not making overpriced electronics.

Because the World is one researcher away from curing pancreatic cancer? Or are you assuming he would have created a billion dollar company researching pancreatic cancer and the cure would have been found already?

I was just going to post that picture...

From CNN:

Quote:
(CNN) -- A photo released by the White House on Friday shows Apple CEO Steve Jobs, along with other tech luminaries, raising a toast with President Barack Obama at a dinner Thursday night in San Francisco.

The photo, of a private dinner during the President's visit to California, comes as tabloid reports, some featuring alleged photos of Jobs, have questioned the Apple leader's health.

In the photo, Jobs and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg flank Obama during the toast. Wearing his trademark black mock turtleneck shirt, Jobs is photographed from behind.

Jobs was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. He took a six-month leave of absence in 2009, during which he was reported to have had a liver transplant.

He began an indefinite medical leave of absence on January 17.

This week, a supermarket tabloid and a gossip website ran unconfirmed reports suggesting that his health was declining.

Neither Apple nor Jobs, or anyone directly familiar with his health care, have commented publicly on the reason for his leave or the most recent rumors.

Jobs had kept a low profile since unveiling a new line of MacBook laptops in October.

Obama's meeting with the tech luminaries was intended to discuss innovation and spurring job growth.

Also worth noting: Zuckerberg appears to have shed his go-to hooded sweatshirt look for his dinner with the leader of the free world.

Others attending the dinner included Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.

Also, Stanford University President John Hennessy, Genentech CEO Art Levinson, Steve Westly, founder of The Westly Group and John Doerr, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

If you had billions in the bank and could make a difference you wouldn't?

If you knew for 7 years something was wrong with you, wouldn't you try and do something about?

Thats all I'm saying, he could have probably done something

Each of us will knock on heavens/hells door sooner or later. Though it's really sad he has probably so little time to prepare for that.
I think the best thing he can do know is to make sure that his money will go for the good cause like World peace, fight against world hunger and incurable diseases like the one he is suffering from. I wish him more time.

brutal, nice of these 'sources' to gossip to a tabloid. he's dying, there's nothing left of him. that's what cancer does in the end stage, it consumes every cell/tissue in your body like Pacman times a million.

unless doctors tell you chemo has a solid chance of curing or getting you back to some quality of life for a decent amount of time - refuse it. it just prolongs and adds to the misery.

when my dad's cancer recurred and the doctor told him it had spread, my dad said 'i'm just going to let it rip'. my mom and us kids begged him to try chemo, we were still clinging to hope that chemo could buy him some good years - doctors don't want to tell you what they don't think you want to hear, perhaps they should. anyway the chemo just made my dad's last few months worse. people should go out on their own terms, if they can't accept they're dying then let them get chemo but if it were me I'd rather take some pills and peacefully go before the monster completely ravaged me.

Sounds like your dad knew what he wanted. Once its at the advanced stages, chemo is just prolonging the inevitable.

My mother in law just beat back cancer with some chemo carpet bombing -- but she caught it really early.

Mutt,

Sorry about your dad. I hope it is tabloid rumor in this case. Steve Jobs is brilliant! It would be such a shame for him go at such a young age, not to mention at the height of his career.

It sounds harsh but you are totally right. To each their own but I am much more a quality of life than a quantity of life person. I'd rather live it up proper and go out as much as possible on my own terms then spend it confined and let them set my veins on fire.
