The funny thing is that he obviously thought people would applaud him for this. Realistically, he probably was helping local farmers. I know firsthand how trouble animals can make life for a farmer a pain in the ass. As a hunter raised on a farm myself I can understand how legally sanctioned hunts and biologists can work out good functional programs for culling trouble animals.

What I don't understand is how he thought this was going to play out in his favor whatsoever. For what I would have to assume is a pretty keen businessman, to do something like this and expect praise for it, this seems like utter retardation. Really now. you shoot a fucking elephant, and post a video of the butchering?

I think the obvious outcome that we're seeing now should have been pretty easy to predict. I'm just laughing at what a stupid fucking maneuver this was on Parson's part...

For the amount of money he makes he could have gone a much much different route. If he really cared he could have had the elephants relocated to a wild life preserve and flown in a ton of a grain and rice for the locals to eat, all for the spare change in his pocket (figuratively speaking of course). The fact of the matter is, he wanted to shoot an elephant, hence the "trophy" picture. That is the sole reason he did it. To save the crops and provide food for the locals was just a cover story.

Before you go moving all your domains to NameCheap, you should do your due diligence to make sure that the owner there has never gone hunting for deer, ducks, pheasants, or gone fishing ... as this would make you all hypocrites!!

What he partook in, was not any different than farmers here, who will shoot a gopher to stop it from digging up their crops, or shoot a coyote to stop it from killing his chickens. The only difference is it is a huge animal that we are not accustomed to seeing except for in a circus. To the African farmers, this is just an oversized threat to their ability to produce food for their villiagers, and killing it provides food for many villagers too. Its the circle of life for fuck sakes!!

And if a rich American wants to experience what it's like to kill an elephant, how is that any different than the average fisherman who decides he wants the thrill of fighting a marlin or a shark??

The irony to all of this moral righteousness is hilarious also ... People have no moral issues with plastering somebody's 18 year old daughter in sexually obscene photographs all over the net, but when some guy goes to Africa on safari and shoots a circus animal, the fucking sky is falling ...

Here are some highlights:

I called upon ICANN to approve .XXX.
In my keynote speech recently delivered at the annual Domain Roundtable Conference industry meeting in Seattle on May 25th, I called upon ICANN to approve the .XXX top level domain. I personally believe that out of all the new top level domains being approved, .XXX is one that makes a great deal of sense and will serve a useful purpose.

Adult website operators will not voluntarily let go of their .COM names.

It’s going to take action by private industry and the government to resolve the matter entirely.

Another solution might be for browser manufacturers to only allow users to access adult websites when a .XXX domain name is used. In other words, attempts to access websites containing adult content with web site addresses that use other top level domain extensions such as .COM or .NET, simply wouldn’t resolve.

I suspect that we will need a combination of government and private solutions to solve the adult content issues to most everyone's satisfaction.

You can also hit google with "Bob Parsons + porn" to find some other "gems" I'm too lazy to go find archives of the old site posts, looks like now Bob's site is just video blog stuff, but I'm sure the archives are there somewhere, I had that post date and quotes handy from this same discussion on another board from a few hours ago.

Does anyone happen to remember years back when Bob did his first online radio show (now a video radio show these days) The topic was mainly WHY .xxx MUST be passed, and how cool he was for being "Bob"

A bunch of us adult webmasters / program owners got onto his show to ask him WHY he wanted to destroy the very industry he so gladly profited from, I WISH I had an Archive of that, was a GREAT show (thanks to us lol)
