Finally..............It's CORN SEASON !!!!

The local corn is starting to come into its own, they started selling it at the farmers market yesterday Had the peaches and cream last night which is my favorite.

It was ok,a tad bland for my taste, still needs a week or so of maturing, before it's full flavour. Got some from a different farmer tonight, about to put the pot on to boil

Who else is getting some ?

For edible corn around here, they usually have the Super Sweet, which is all yellow, as the name implies, it is really sweet, dont care for it. The other is the peaches and cream. I will search , high and low , see if they have "pumpkin pie"

Yeah the corn in Chilliwack, BC is great. I look forward to the summers, its on the side of the road everywhere, peaches n cream too. But since I discovered the packaged corn in the stores that sells all year around and is pretty much equally good, i dont get quite as excited.

There is never one that tastes any different:

I like to buy them at the roadside stands ,when they are freshly picked, support the local growers

Yup, I'd say maybe another week and entire crops will be perfect.

Good ol Manitoba-grown peaches 'n cream corn at it's finest. Love it love it love it.

I like white corn the best myself. Not sure if it's an actual strain or if it's just early, but I think it's much better than yellow.

Interesting fact. Before toilet paper was invented, people used to wipe their ass with corn cobs... hence the word "cornhole."

Figured that was relevant.

A friend of mine's dog used to eat them too. Then he swallowed whole a quarter kernal. Didn't shit right for 2 weeks. Thought he was going to die. Then he sounded like a bitch giving birth and bamb, we was suddenly ready to do it all over again.

yeah you gotta watch out for this, it can cause blockages for sure, keep all the husks our of reach for the dogs, they will hunt them out of the garbage--especially if you have labs!

Been eating corn with our BBQ food for about 3 months already down here in Windsor. Picked up a batch of freshly picked corn on Saturday, it was delicious.

This brings me back to when I was 13, I had a summer job picking vegetables for an old dutch guy. If you were fast, they would keep you on for the corn season. We would be picking about 30 bushels an hour, and still we couldn't keep up with demand.

For corn, I like grilling it after its buttered, especially if you make a compound butter. Favorite so far is a chili lime butter.

I'm planning on heading to the farmer's market tomorrow and grabbing a bunch. With a little side salad of some fresh tomatoes with just a bit of cracked pepper and sea salt... Perfection. Especially with some beautiful cherries for dessert.
