Has anyone used dolphin 7 ?
Hi Everyone.
I had my eye on boonex Dolphin software a few years back but never really got into it as I heard it was a little buggy then and i think it was way more than it is now. I saw a clip for the newest version and it looks pretty sexy. Just curious if anyone has had any experience with it. Looks like it would be nice for a dating or social setup. I will probably download the community version to try it but was curious what you think. I always get great advice from you all. Thanks guys |

Yeah I've used it, it's quite robust
These days though I tend to prefer wordpress for _everything_ It's like... I consider using a different script, and it always somehow manages to come back to using wordpress. |

Thanks for the info. I've read a few blogs where people aren't that happy with the source code. Some other people complain that they have to pay for some mods that they felt should be included. I'm not saying you shouldn't pay for mods, just don't want to be caught by surprise XD. I guess i should do more research on it, as well as buddypress . I see there is like a 500 dollar app for buddypress if you wanted to do video chat and sharing, etc. I did not know you could do all of that within bp.

Dolphin 7 is stable if you install it properly on the right hardware for the amount of traffic you expect.
I have two full licenses for Dolphin 7 available. Quite happy to sell them. Personally I recommend Social Engine which is a much better platform. If you're running a dating site go with Dolphin, if you're running a social network go with Social Engine |

That has to be one of the most annoying promo videos I've ever seen.

I have a Dolphin license i bought about two years ago, when ot was cheap and unlimited.
Those days everyone was complaining about how buggy ot was. I'm suscribed to their mailing list, and every major i go back to the forums and read them for hours. Guess what; according to the forums, it's still as buggy as before, and the fact that there's not a really big site yet in 2011 running on Dolphin makes me think... |

I think I have been scared off from buying dolphin for now. The features they talk about like the video chat and ims, email setup, etc. are so tempting but from your advice, as well as from researching via google, it seems like I could be playing with fire.
King, I saw social engine a couple of months ago but wasn't really looking into this type of stuff and totally forgot about it. It does look pretty nice. I can be a control freak design wise and by the looks of some of the demo sites, I think it would be nice to work with. I have three sites I want to build something for and I don't think a w/l would do the job. The domains are dateorfun.com, postadvice.com, and mmolegacy.com (none of them go to anything). Papillon's wise advice pointed me in this direction and now I will probably follow yours as well. ...................... John, I found something slightly odd about the ad as well. I don't know if it was the constant talk about how the software, like wild dolphins should be freed or how they could charge you for every little option, etc. ...................... 19teen, thank you very much for your insight, I think I will take your advice, as well as the blogs. etc I've read, to heart. Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your two cents. |

If you're a design control freak then Social Engine is the shizzle, there are many great off the shelf templates that can make it look remarkably different. The user interface is completely customizable just like using wordpress widgets. Menus are all customizable and there are so many cool plugins you won't have any trouble adapting it to suit your site. Better still it's all open source, meaning that while you need to pay a license per site, you get access to all the source.

Hey Sober, thanks for the link. It's nice to see all of the options in one place. If this site is yours, I noticed two things.
1. The world map threw an error that you need a new google key. 2. The forums title has the default orca title on it. Not trollin or anything, just thought i should give you a heads up. The biggest things I was interested in was the video ims and chats, as well as the email system. King, I will probably end up downloading the trial over the weekend to check it out, play with skinning it. etc. I will make sure i use your id if it works out for the best. Thanks again for all of the help! |

However, THEY knew best lol So, basically, in all truth... FUCK THEM ! If it dont work, it dont work ! NOT MY PROBLEM lol Thats why I stated that this is what D7 Looks like with ALL OPTIONS turned on for ALL USERS! Foolish... But there yah go ! Not my problem |

That has got to be one of the worst, buggy, poorly written scripts I've ever had the displeasure of working with.
Seriously.. Friggin terrible.
