do you have people you don't "know" as friends on facebook?
the whole thing seems so limiting and way too intimate to me, I don't have a facebook, but I wonder about the whole idea, if someone that comes across your page through a friend or common interest or whatever "friend requests" you, do you accept? do you have "friends" on there that you don't really know? the internet seemed so much better in the myspace days when it was much more casual and a little more private, facebook has ruined that whole spirit |

				 | I do have people as my friends like that, and it's strange. Every so often I'll glance over my friends and think about deleting one of the people I barely know. But, then I decide against it. My reasoning is, they are a friend of a friend and it would be rude to do so. Now if someone I barely know, or don't know at all sends a friend request I just ignore it, so I don't have to drive myself nuts about whether or not I'm being rude by deleting them. The funny part is, they probably don't give two shits if I delete them or not and I'm making a bigger deal out of it than necessary. Facebook I was hoping anonymous would take it down

				 | 5000 friends? is this common? do you post on their walls and vice versa? or just read up on some that catch your interest? is it proper ettiquette to "like" random posts here and there, like if they update their picture or something? I'm trying to get a feel for the whole thing, I really don't like the idea of too much "real life" stuff being on there but I may have been wrong in my impression of Facebook if it can work this way with 1000's of "friends" you don't really know, there might be hope for it after all |

				 | when you say "separate", what does this do? can they tell they are "separated", if someone is separated from your friends you do "know", do they miss half your posts or something? |

				 | I met my boyfriend of four years on Facebook. I added a friend of a friend who a year and a half later has become by far my closest and best friend (outside of the boyfriend who is my bestest). You never know how close you'll become to that random person you add. |

Actually a lot of my friend base today can be attributed to #Maryland on IRC. We used to have parties at each others houses and then my friend base grew meeting their friends. Most of my friendships start friend of a friend or neighbors when I move and then expands. I am not the type to introduce myself to people when out and about. | |

				 | Yes, I have like 600 "friends" and around 300 I have no idea who they are and 200 are people that maybe I met once or twice in my life or people that I didn't see for 20+ years. I only interact with my family and maybe 30-40 people, no more than that (and no much interaction either, maybe a "I like" once every 10-15 days )

				 | No. I learned my lesson that some internet people latch on to you even with a small amount of personal details, and so my Facebook is restricted only to direct family and a very small group of old friends. I actually reject most of the requests that I get.

				 | Everyone on Facebook adds people they hardly know just to make it look good and get those "friends" numbers up. It's embarrassing. I'll be glad if/when Facebook the whole social networking shit ends. Then just maybe the internet could become fun again... |

				 | I have about 450 friends, and a few of them are randoms. They get added to a "random" friends list and I either end up liking them or they get deleted.

				 | I'm seeing my facebook now being a mix of friends and people I work with or is in our industry. I like to keep my facebook more on the personal level so I have started to remove and not add new requests from people who have their company name in their name or logo as their profile picture. Also I stopped assing models when they request it since that's. A pure marketing gimmick.
